New Railway Deal

Bristol, Va., April 20 - Special - The Virginia and Southwestern
Railway Company, of which Henry K. McHarg is president, and which has
its general offices here, is about to acquire additional properties.
It now has under consideration a proposition to purchase the Black
Mountain Railway, recently completed, and extending from Applachia,
Va., into the rich coal fields of Lee county, Virginia, and the
Holston River Railroad , now being constructed from Moccasin Gap,
Va., to Persia, Tenn., where it will connect with the Southern
Railway. The purchase of these two properties, if the deal is
consummated, will make the Virginia and Southwestern a rival of all
other roads entering the Virginia coal fields in supplying the
southern territory with fuel.
A meeting of the stockholders of the Virginia and Southwestern
Company will be held at the general offices here on April 29, with a
view to consummating these deals and for the purpose of considering
the matter of a bond issue to pay for the properties.
