COSTS A THIRD LESS TO RIDE TRAINS NOW
------
NORFOLK AND WESTERN ANNOUNCES ACCEPTANCE
------
The new two-cent rate, which goes into effect today on all of the railroads in West Virginia will cut just one-third off the fare you have been paying for your travel. For instance you can now go to Welch for 75 cents, when formerly it cost $1.10; a ticket to Williamson, which formerly cost $3.20, can now be bought for $2.15; and for $3.70 you can ride all the way to Kenova, a trip that yesterday would have cost $5.55. It will cost but a few cents more to go to Columbus or Cincinnati now than it formerly cost to go to Kenova. Every body in the state will profit excepting those who are unfortunately situated along a line less than 50 [blurred; best interpretation shown] miles in length operated independently of any other railroad The Norfolk and Western, which it was reported would fight the new law, alleging it to be unconstitutional, has announced that it will give the patrons a two cent fare and has issued tariff books to all its agents. The local agent has been instructed to sell tickets at the reduced rate.
