THE GRAHAM DAILY NEWS
------
Division Headquarters Here
While few of the citizens realized it, nevertheless it was a fact that Graham was for a few hours yesterday one of the most important towns on the Pocahontas division of the Norfolk and Western road. Bluefield was not in it with Graham after the fire in Bluefield had destroyed all of the telegraph lines which made it necessary to establish headquarters for the division at the Graham tower, from which place the train dispatchers handled the big railroad for several hours until communication was restored with Bluefield. The few railroad men here who were aware of the importance of the superintendent's office and the railroad official's presence in Graham became chesty and dreamed of a board of affairs and twenty-nine members on the city council with big scrappy doings over license, etc. It was good while it lasted but the quick work of the linemen, who were rushed by special train to the scene of the fire where the telegraph lines were repaired as if by magic, soon put Graham out of the big city class where she will probably remain until there is another fire.
