Glade Spring Configuration

Through the 1950's and possibly into the '60's, Glade Spring passing siding
extended about a mile in each direction from the wye leading to the
Saltville Branch. Crossovers between the siding and the main line were
located at each end of the wye connection. A number of years ago the
eastern end of the siding was retired. The cleared area visible in the
pictures on the north side of the main line was the former location of the
eastern end of the passing siding.

I rode the recent Roanoke-Bristol excursion train through Glade Spring at
track speed and was not aware of any unusual deviation in the track
alignment.
