Need Help to ID N&W Can

I believe that every single engineer's oil can that I have seen has the spout soldered to the can, with a filler tube on the body of the can.

I'm not sure what these were used for, but likely a thicker liquid like an oil to allow for pouring from the top with no spout.

Unfortunately all we can make out on the underside is "MFG CO". The actual name is beyond recognition. The can is 11" H x 6-3/4" W. Any insight is greatly appreciated.
