Mike:

Try Walthers Part # 585-31265 for the feedwater heater and either Walthers
Part # 190-334 or Walthers Part # 585-3449 for the cross-compound air
compressors.

"What do they do?" "Readers' Digest summary", the feedwater heater uses
exhaust steam to pre-heat the water before it's fed to the boiler, thus
improving efficiency by reducing the amount of coal that would otherwise have
to be burned to heat the water to its boiling point; the air compressors are
the source of the compressed air for the air brake system.

If you want the long-winded explanation, I suggest starting with “How a
Steam Locomotive Works”; Parker, Karen; TLC Publishing, 2008; it's available
from the NWHS Commissary.

That’s a Worthington BL feedwater heater. Should be available from detail
parts manufacturers. The pumps on the right side are two cross-compound
air pumps. No kin.

What does the large flat device on the fireman side of a K-1 do?

Do you know where to get an HO scale one? There are two smaller pumps (or
whatever) on the engineers side.
What do they do?

Thank you,
Mike Shockley
