I did a quick scan thru the archives and there are pictures of K2, Z1B, and Y6’s in Winston Salem, NC. I remember seeing the 611 come thru Kernersville, NC on the Southern’s K line heading east to Greensboro. Best memory she come up the Winston Salem Southbound maybe?
I have been told that the N&W had a loop track at North Winston. Southern/NS has a wye still in place at the junction of the K and L lines just south of the yard connection to N&W’s Northwestern yard(current NS yard).

So why wouldn’t the A or J for that matter not cross the Dan bridge? I know Southern had a bridge over the Yadkin river to Wilkesboro and only used 4 axle locos on that line. Current operator Yadkin Valley now uses 6 axle SD40-2s after a realignment onto the bridge.
