a question about stock car classes

Perhaps they didn’t use “I” because it might be confused with “1”?

Is a car an HI or an H1?

Apparently N&W did not like to use "I" in class letters. There is no PI passenger car. They skip from PH to PJ. And off the top of my head, I don't remember an HI hopper either.

Thanks Ken ! Sometimes my success in searching through the archives can be hit or miss (usually because I get distracted by something shiny..) I sincerely appreciate your help.

Brent

If you do a check on our archives website, you can see we have drawings for SG and SJ, but we don’t have anything on and SI.

Go to the website:

http://www.nwhs.org/archivesdb/rollingStock/index.php?Road=N%26W+Rwy <http://www.nwhs.org/archivesdb/rollingStock/index.php?Road=N%26W+Rwy&Cat=Freight> &Cat=Freight

And chose stock for the type and you can see a list, now there probably was an SI or at least it was planned, but we have nothing on that.

In digging through files and pictures, I have found evidence of N&W stock cars in classes SD, SF, SH, and SK. The gaps cause me to question were there any SG, SI or SJ class cars as well? Or, were these letter designations just indicative of the class of boxcar that these stock cars were created from?

Thanks,
