Abram, you don’t run across anything by chance. I think you meant patience, persistence and passion.

A couple of years ago, I ran across a motorcycle video tracing the route on YouTube. I can’t find it now, but if you have the patience, you can drive it via Google’s Streetview (until you have a chance to take up the tour offered by Larry). The road is called, appropriately enough, "Old N W Railroad Bed Rd”, at least on the south end. If you’re curious, begin at the following link, and drag the street view guy over.

The Twelve Pole Line (Naugatuck to Kenova) has fascinated me since the early 1960s, when I talked to men who had worked over it.

Today, quite by chance, I ran across the ICC abandonment authorization document. It is Finance Document 9207, issued in 1934, and covering two hearings held in 1933. The line was abandoned late in 1933. The document was published in ICC Reports, vol. 193, 1934.

I believe the original Twelve Pole Line R/W now supports a vehicle road, and can be driven, and that at least one of the tunnels is used for the vehicular road. If anyone has made this trip my motor vehicle, I would like to hear about it, as I am considering doing the same.

ICC document attached,
