It depends what era you're modeling, as there are fewer ex-N&W cars in
the current NS business fleet compared with right after the merger.
Here is some information I have compiled about the early NS fleet:
N&W 100 - NS 7 Pocahontas, later sold to Conrail, came back after CR
split as NS 7 PennsylvaniaN&W 200 - NS 4 Lambert's PointN&W 300 - NS 5
Roanoke, sold by 1990N&W 450, ex diner 491 to sleeper/dorm - NS 12
IndianaN&W 493 Gen William Mahone - NS 18 Gen Nathan Bedford Forrest,
later Gen William MahoneN&W 494 Fredrick J Kimball - NS 19 General
William Mahone, later KentuckyN&W 90 Hollins College - NS 10 Hollins
College, sold by 1990N&W 500 - NS 3 Claytor LakeN&W 501 - NS 28N&W 533
- NS 29N&W 600 - NS 24, retired 1993
N&W 800 Alta Vista - NS 24, sold by 1990N&W 408 power car - NS 25,
seldom used.
Keep in mind many of these cars were rebuilt multiple times, so their
appearance as built for N&W and in the 70s would be different, and
their appearance early on in NS could be different than today.
http://www.altoonaworks.info/ocs.html is probably the best single
source, especially for the modern NS fleet. Other picture resources,
some with history, are:

It's worth noting that depending how accurate you want to be and how
much work you're willing to put into them, several N&W and NS business
cars can be modeled in plastic.
The Bachmann Spectrum observation car can be modified to resemble N&W
101 and 102 in the late steam era.The MTH coaches and diners can have
their skirts removed to resemble the ones N&W used in their business
fleet, and can be converted into NS cars.Con-Cor makes a fluted side
baggage car that is similar to the Wabash car converted into a power
car for the business fleet. For the modern NS fleet, Walthers makes
both a Budd coach and full length dome car that would have come with
the Conrail merger.
For what it's worth, I'm not paying modern brass prices for anything.

Subject: Former N&W Business Cars in Norfolk Southern Service

Fred Hill at the Coach Yard is thinking about producing Norfolk
Southern Office cars in HO scale brass.
I only model the Norfolk and Western. I do not model the Norfolk
Southern.
If he is going to produce Norfolk Southern Office cars, I will ask if
he could consider making any earlier N&W versions.
Unfortunately, I have absolutely no knowledge of Norfolk Southern
Office cars or if any were former N&W business cars. For all I know
the Norfolk Southern Office cars used on inspection trips came from
the Southern Railway and have no N&W heritage. Or maybe they were
acquired from other sources well after 1982. At least I do know that
the diesel cab units powering the NS inspection trains have no Norfolk
and Western DNA.
I sure could use a list of Norfolk Southern Office cars and their
previous N&W number. Pictures would also be great.
 Thanks in advance.
