We may be getting a bit off the track here (pun intended), with discussions
pertaining to fire trucks, but the job of delivering fire trucks is not all
it would appear to be. That new vehicle may be a great ride for 5 miles,
but is like riding a buckboard for 500 miles. Fire trucks are not
built like over-the-road trucks. Second issue, departments should have the
truck delivered by the builder - for warranty and liability reasons, among
others.
For modelers, there are lots of great models of fire apparatus of vintages
dating back over the last 50 years. And one can easily add warning lights
that bring a bit of "action" to the scene. One model club has a simple
scene with a fire truck, police car, and a ambulance at the scene of a car
accident. Lots of lights. Even in a well-lit room, the little scene draws
attention and nearly every visitor stops and comments.

VA. How does one get the job of "delivering" fire engines? - Albert
Burckard, PS: I have put up a display of O and HO scale fire equipment at
our station if you are ever in the area. Our two latest engines, a 1997
Quint and a 2005 Rescue Quad, were built by E-One. Sorry.

Hampden-Sydney Vol. Fire Department this afternoon, I spent some time
investigating progress on the abandonment of the Farmville line. Below is
a summary.

busy repairing the exhaust on a piece of MOW equipment, hence I wasn't able
to talk to anyone.

are pulling two, leaving one, pulling two, leaving one..........

about 50 yards west of the Rt. 610 grade crossing at the 138
milepost. Obviously this occured since the last train operated through
here a few weeks ago.
