I agree, you're having a bad head day. I found it to be a well rounded show, showcasing a variety of songs.

I loaned a couple of Clapton DVDs to someone recently and his response was that Eric makes it look so simple when you watch him on video. He also asked me not to lend him any more DVDs, prefering to imagine how the songs were being played. Conclusion: We are spoilt by having access to any number of Clapton performances over the last 20 years or so, and therein lies our contempt to write old E ric off as mundane.

My personal favourites from this particular show are Hoochie Coochie Man (which strangely enough sounds more dynamic when you hear it without seeing the video), WDLGTBSS and Sheriff. Why Eric takes two songs to warm up to the fact that he is playing to an audience is an anomoly - he should simply practice the first 2 numbers in his dressing room, or kick off with an acoustic number that requires an element of flare like Rambling on My Mind, Driftin' , etc.

About time he dropped Layla for another 10 years and Cocaine and Crossroads (gulp! sacrilege you say) are long overdue for retirement. Wonderful Tonight can stay as a pass the popcorn interlude.

I downloaded a 2009 EC/SW concert, on which I found E's playing rather dull, when compared to the MSG shows of the previous year.

Strangely enough, Chris Welch wrote in Melody Maker way back in 1966, when reviewing the now widely available Kleeks Klook show, that audiences had been complaining of Cream's lacklustre performances ... so at the end of the day we can't fault Eric for remaining pleasing to some and stale to others - which in hindsight means  he seems to have  applied a consistent approach to his performances all th ese years.

Don't worrry Eric fans we still love the music!

Kevin
