Thanks for the review on this Nick. I haven't heard much of it yet (expect for a clip on Youtube) and my expectations have been much as yours were. Eric seemed to enjoy himself on the clip I watched. Think he slightly mistimed a lyric at one point and just smiled over at Wynton, so it all looked quite relaxed. I remember Ry Cooder did that Jazz album in the 70s and I had a friend who raved about it, but it wasn't my cup of tea at all, even though I like most of Cooder's other albums. So I'm hoping to be pleasantly surprised by this as well.

Not sure how many people tune into this forum any more, good old facebook and twitter or whatever have probably helped interest in it dwindle, so I'm not too surprised by the lack of comment on anything Clapton any more. Isn't it a pity.

Cheers,
Jon

Wynton Marsalis & Eric Clapton "Play The Blues," in both CD and DVD formats, has been out for a week. I find it strange that nobody has mentioned it yet. I was not especially looking forward to it, as I don't care much for horns and prefer a 3-, 4- or 5-piece blues band. But this is, so far at least, a somewhat pleasant surprise. While Clapton's guitar playing is not on fire, I think he (and keyboards player Chris Stainton) does a decent job integrating into a Dixieland-style jazz band, and he does almost all of the lead singing, and quite well too. I'm normally a CD-rather-than-DVD guy, but with this one, the DVD reveals so much more (facial expressions, etc). Nice tones from the two Gibsons Clapton uses (mostly an ES-335).
