Sport fishing returns as boat launch reopens in St. Bernard Parish; hiring
fair to be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. in 5000 block of Paris Road on
Saturday

Sport fishing returns to St. Bernard Parish as the Breton Sound Marina at
Hopedale re-opens on Saturday, Oct. 29 with a grand opening ceremony.

St. Bernard Parish Council member Ricky Melerine, who represents the eastern
part of the parish, said the re-opening of the first boat launch is a
hopeful sign for the parish, signaling the return of sport fishing.

"It's great fishing out there right now,'' Melerine said.

He said the Sheriff's Office will allow sport fishermen from other parishes
to come into St. Bernard to launch their boats. Since Hurricane Katrina,
only parish residents or contractors doing work have been allowed into St.
Bernard.

Also, job applicants will be interviewed from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday,
Oct. 29 at a hiring fair at the URG office trailer in the 5000 block of
Paris Road in Chalmette, across from Corrugated Industries.

Unified Recovery, a contractor of St. Bernard Parish government, has
positions available for diesel mechanics, CDL drivers, equipment operators
and laborers.
