Wendy,
It is simple really... my husband inspected houses and condos and documented
in a report structural damage... he then received a bid from a contractor...
and a revised adjustment was given to the insurance company in the form of
the bid and report. So far a few home/condo owners have been paid a second
check. This was done in lieu of contacting the insurance company for a
second adjuster. It is just a simple way of providing the insurance company
with enough information to refute what the first adjusters total damages to
structure.

Regarding the non-profit for St. Bernard. Go for it... Good luck! There
are many organizations local to St. Bernard given time will be active again.
For now I'll list what I know of going on in "da" Parish. There are
missionary workers working out of the Wal Mart parking lot. The staging
area in the Cultural Center passing out cleaning supplies, clothing and
other items. There are of course the tents in front of Wal Mart passing out
information and different items such as a hot meal and supplies of all
sorts. There also is a nonprofit, Relief Spark, out of Hollywood, CA who
has adopted St. Bernard to help not only with Christmas toys, trees,
decorations but also directly with the rebuilding process. Relief Spark
will have a staging area next to the Lutheran Church on Paris Road opening
later this month.
