Bayou Dupre and Bayou Bienvenue lock structures may be shut because of
predicted strong winds; 64th Pearl Harbor anniversary ceremony on Wednesday;
Courthouse and Sheriff have some regular phone numbers back

The Bayou Dupre locks at the Violet Canal and Bayou Bienvenue locks in New
Orleans, both on the Mississippi River - Gulf Outlet, may be closed to boats
on Wednesday or Thursday because of predicted strong easterly winds that
could push tides 2-3 feet above normal, a St. Bernard levee board officials
said Tuesday.

Bob Turner, director of the Lake Borgne Basin Levee district in St. Bernard
which maintains levees and some drainage canals, said a low pressure system
is predicted to create strong easterly winds that could be a problem if the
locks weren't closed as a precaution.

The National Weather Service is keeping up with the matter and may issue a
coastal flood advisory, Turner said.

The Bayou Dupre locks are at the Violet Canal and the Bayou Bienvenue locks
are in New Orleans, but the Lake Borgne levee district coordinates its
closing with Orleans officials, Turner said.

The 64th anniversary of the Dec. 7, 1941, attack on Pearl Harbor, which
brought the United States into World War II, will be remembered in a 11 a.m.

ceremony Wednesday at Pearl Harbor Park on Paris Road in Chalmette, near the
Orleans Parish line.

The public is invited to attend the ceremony, which remembers the nearly
3,000 Americans killed in the attack in Hawaii by Japanese bombers.

Some regular telephone numbers have been re-established for the Paris
Courthouse and the sheriff's Office, officials said.

The 911 emergency system hasn't been re-established but the Sheriff's Office

can be reached 271-2501, as well as 208-0802.

The offices in the Courthouse, including the Clerk of Court, District
Attorney, Assesor and the judges, have a regular phone number working again,

officials said.
