Used car dealers did something similar to my parents and sister (they hiked
the price up higher the bluebook value), AND they stupidly fell for it. I
told them to walk away, but my sister needed a car and they were tired of
looking.

It's incredible how some businesses are trying to take advantage of
hurricane victims. Don't fall for the $2,000 surcharge one FORD dealership
on Veterans Hwy thought they could scam us with. After negotiating an order
for a car and printing out the purchase order, the salesman announced that
our price would be more than MSRP. He said all Ford dealerships were setting
the sale price $2,000 more than MSRP because these cars are in demand and
because of the flood. The dealership had no such surcharge printed on any of
their cars in inventory and to suddenly say they could add whatever they
wanted to the price, right before the purchase order was signed, was
insulting. We had been to the dealership several times so they had ample
opportunity to tell us about any surcharge. We angrily left and reported
them to the Attorney General via Foti's complaint form on-line. We went to
another Ford dealership, this one in Kenner, and ordered the same car below
MSRP. If we share our stories, we can outsmart those who want to take
advantage of us and support the local businesses who are fair and deserve
our patronage. -ddk
