It seems that St. Maurice (which has served the Parish and the Lower 9 for
around 150 years) is not on the list of churches to be closed.

There was some damage--the steeple's in the front lawn of the rectory and
the copper seems to have been looted off of it and the church did take on a
bit of water, but I think there was no other major structural damage to the
building.

Does anyone know of any effort to clean or stabilize the church so that it  
doesn't decay further while it waits for a possible re-opening?   It's  
such a wonderful building and it was recently renovated.   It would be a  
shame to let it slip back into ruin.

Is there any way for people to volunteer to help with clean up?
