EXCERPTS FROM CITYBUSINESS ARTICLE ? Overhead power lines should be
buried underground, homes should be more energy efficient and
neighborhoods should be designed to serve as "liveable refuges" in a
catastrophe.

Those were some of the many suggestions made by the nonprofit U.S.
Green Building Council, which today unveiled 10 principles to guide the
rebuilding of New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. The
title of the presentation was "The New Orleans Principles: Celebrating
the Rich History of New Orleans Through Commitment to a Sustainable
Future."

The 10 principles are:

? Respect the rights of all citizens

? Restore natural protections of the greater New Orleans region.

? Implement an inclusive planning process.

? Value diversity

? Protect the city

? Embrace smart development.

? Honor the past; build for the future.

? Provide for passive survivability.

? Foster locally owned, sustainable business.

? Focus on the long term.

The Green Building Council promised to deliver more reports on
Affordable Housing, Sustainable Schools and Gulf Coast Guidelines.?
