Jill,

Please don't be mislead because of the minutes being posted now to mean that
this is new- Between Bob Turner and Ricky Melerine this issue has been
being worked for months and months and has gone through tremendous hurdles
just to get to this point.

Every step of the way there has been a reason NRCS has not responded
favorably to requests for assistance- for instance one of their reasons that
had to be fought was that they saw no economic justification to do the work
in the St. Bernard waterways- Keep in mind that this is not the first
project that they are doing this is a follow up specifically related to the
sediment and marsh grass at the identified choke points.

Thanks for your continued interest and information.

Good luck and God Bless,
Craig

Lake Borgne Basin Levee District: Bob Turner
1. Meeting at the Corps yesterday regarding canal work, he did not
attend
due to a surprise levee inspection by the Corps. Starting work on the
eleven choke points in canals. NRCS is performing damage assessments,
confirmed depth of sediments he has reported all along. Problem is work is
75/25 match, will need to seek funding from State level.

Craig,
Several months ago I sent info to this digest about the resouces that the
National Resource Conservation Service could perform and that they had just
been awarded another 300 mil and what a great job they were doing for St.
Tammany. I also stated that right after Katrina St.Tammany asked them to
estimate the clean up work for the waterways etc and also that there was a
75/25 split for payment and asked if St. Bernard had looked into this. As
Secretary of the St. Bernard Sportsmen's League I was concerned with the
work that they could do for our waterways. I didn't see any feedback from
my posting.

Now, months later the Lake Borgne Basin Levee District: Bob Turner is now
addressing the issue to go to the state for the 25%. Also is there even a
final estimate on exactly what the cost or 25% committment will be. Did
St.Bernard Government get an estimate or is this just the Levee District?
NRCS originally ran our of funds in November so one would ask do they still
have any of the 300 mil left they received several months ago?
