[StBernard] Murphy demo

The issue of demolishing the houses in the Murphy original spill area is
like the issue of the white goods disposal. DEQ/EPA says it's contaminated
with oil, Murphy says they don't have to pick up those white goods (guess
the oil didn't stick to them) and Murphy says since the houses to be
demolished were never gutted by the homeowners, they don't have to
decontaminate them and demolishing them isn't for Murphy to do.

Is the answer to homeowners like my parents who settled with Murphy and
requested demolition to pay someone to gut the house, make Murphy then
decontaminate, and then request the parish to demolish? Want to be sure that
if a house is decontaminated enough to live it, that it meets DEQ/EPA
criteria for clean enough to have the parish demolish and FEMA pay for it.

If so, then for $2,000 they can have it gutted, wait for decontamination,
then wait for parish demolition or for $7,000 they can hire a private
contractor to demo the whole thing and put the nightmare behind them. as was
done on the corner of Genie and Campagna in a few hours time. They can take
the cost out of the Murphy settlement money they received.

Just want to be sure I am clean about the choices here.
