Parish President Rodriguez announces mobile unit from Department of Motor
Vehicles to be in St. Bernard Parish beginning June 21 and every Wednesday
and Thursday through July 6.

A mobile unit from the Louisiana Department of Motor Vehicles will be at the
St. Bernard Port in Chalmette from June 19-July 7, offering services on
Wednesday, June 21, Thursday the 22nd, Wednesday the 28th, Thursday the 29th
and Wednesday, July 5 and Thursday the 6th, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on each of
the days, St. Bernard Parish President Henry "Junior'' Rodriguez announced.

It's the first time since Hurricane Katrina that the Department of Motor
Vehicles has opened any type of office in St. Bernard Parish, which formerly
had an office at the Port which was damaged in the storm.

Rodriguez and the parish's legislative delegation worked on a deal with the
Department of Motor Vehicles and the Port of St. Bernard. A permanent office
trailer for the DMV is also being discussed.

Rodriguez said the return of the DMV office is important to parish residents
who since the storm have had to drive to Jefferson Parish or St. Tammany
Parish and wait in lengthy lines to renew drivers' licenses, register
vehicles or handle other services they could do in St. Bernard prior to
Katrina.

Both Rodriguez and state Rep. Nita Hutter of Chalmette, who serves on the
House Transportation Committee, said the Department of Motor Vehicles'
return to St. Bernard is another sign of the parish moving forward in its
recovery.
