Breaux Mart has signed a lease to become the first supermarket chain to open
a store in Chalmette since Hurricane Katrina and is expected to unveil a
23,000-square foot store in 60 days at 315 East Judge Perez Drive, site of
the former Jubilee store, according to Gus Riess of the Riess family which
signed the deal.

St. Bernard Parish President Henry "Junior'' Rodriguez said he welcomes a
full service supermarket chain in the parish as another key step to
recovery, saying it makes it much easier for residents who no longer would
have to travel to other parishes to buy food.

Breaux Mart, which operates several stores in Jefferson Parish and Algiers,
is expected soon to start taking applications for employment.
No hours of store operation have been released.

After months of waiting for grocery stores that would sell meat, produce and
a full line of food products, St. Bernard is starting to make progress.

Main's Chalmette Market, is expected to open Thursday, June 29 in the 500
block of West Judge Perez Drive, a full service grocery store.

The market will be open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., seven days a week.

Winn-Dixie supermarket has said it intends to reopen its Paris Road store,
probably in September.

Another business also has announced it is reopening in the parish: St.
Bernard Glass, Inc., 1120 West Judge Perez Drive, Chalmette, is expected to
reopen Monday, July 10. They can be reached at stbernardglass at yahoo.com.
