Qualifying begins for parish races
Elections scheduled to be held Sept. 30 Wednesday, August 09, 2006 St.
Bernard bureau

Qualifying opens Wednesday for a number of local elections in St. Bernard
and Plaquemines parishes.

The three-day qualifying period closes Friday in both parishes. The
elections will be Sept. 30.

In St. Bernard, there will be races for the parish's 11 School Board
districts, justice of the peace for Ward A and constable for Ward H. There
are also several parish tax renewals scheduled for the ballot.


Candidates must qualify at the St. Bernard Parish clerk of court's office,
1101 W. St. Bernard Highway, in Chalmette. The hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30
p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, and 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday.

In Plaquemines Parish, candidates can qualify for parish president, nine
Parish Council districts, nine School Board districts and 9th Ward justice
of the peace.

Qualifying will be 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, and 8:30
a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday at the clerk's office, 301 Main St., Suite 108,
Belle Chasse.

In addition to the local races, the Sept. 30 ballots in St. Bernard and
Plaquemines Parish will feature a number of statewide races and
constitutional amendments.
