St. Bernard's Golden Arches Are Back

The McDonald's on Paris Road in Chalmette re-opened its doors this week, the
first of the national fast food restaurant chains to return to St. Bernard.

The parish used to have multiple franchises of McDonald's, Burger King and
Wendy's scattered through out the area.

Young and old gathered inside the Paris Road McDonald's for the grand
opening Monday.
Beginning early in the morning, customers streamed in throughout the day and
long into the night, with the drive-thru lines extending to the highway.

The fast food franchise, open 24 hours, has updated its look and added
double drive-thru lanes.

The St. Bernard morning crowd can once again grab their coffee and breakfast
from the golden arches before going into work. And after school, the
restaurant is filled with the chatter of moms and their young children, high
school students and workers getting off work.

Life and business in St. Bernard seem to be progressing. Although it will
still be quite some time before St. Bernard resembles life before Katrina,
it's nice to have familiar gathering places, bringing the already close
community even closer.

Yes, "Happy Meals" are back.
