[StBernard] LRA Appointment

Laurie,

My guess is that you will not be eligible for any funds from the LRA if you
sell your house. I would make the appointment to discuss your specific
situation directly with the LRA.

What you may be able to do is put the sale on hold, take the LRA money to
repair the house, and then sell the house. As long as you remain a
Louisiana resident, I don't think you will have any problems with that.

As for the $130 square foot, forget that. It is nothing more than a figure
used to estimate cost of repairs.

When comparing the pre-Katrina value of your house and the cost to repair,
the LRA is going to take the lower of the two. Of course, even worse, if
your home appraised for more than the amount of homeowners coverage you had,
they are going to take the lower of that also.

With all the deductions and taking lowest values, I can fully understand why
the average grant so far has been below $50,000 and nowhere near the
$150,000 mentioned.

Westley,

I would like to know if someone sells their house to a private person, can
they still recieve LRA money with the selling price deducted? A relocation
grant, I guess. I am planning to sell my house, the sale has not gone
through yet, but I will still sell it because the people really want it and
I have made a commitment to them. These square footage prices I am hearing
sound very high to me and are much more than I would get from the sale of my

house to a private party, even with insurance deducted. The grant amounts
seem very different from the chart up on this sight early on, but I didn't
value my house at $130 per square foot then either. Anyway, I have signed up

for LRA and gotten my letter back, but I was not going to make an
appointment because I'm selling my house. Should I make the appointment
anyway and see if I get an offer, or does my selling my house disqualify me?

Laurie
