I forgot to add---the person I spoke with made a point of saying that when
we call, we should say WHEN not IF a branch will open for the folks in
Lower St. Bernard/Meraux/Violet.

Every little bit helps!

Hello all!

During my recent visit to the post office/trailer, I, once again,
nquired as
to when the postal service/ mail retrieval would return to a normal
schedule--one that included 24/7 box access. I was told that no
improvments
were in the immediate works. The person I spoke with said that
postal
managment were meeting with council members, but that because there
had been
no feedback or shall I say complaints from the folks in the
Meraux/Violet/Lower St. Bernard areas, nothing was happening to
improve our
situation--even though this person said that the largest number of
postal
customers were in those areas. I asked what we could do to help and
was
told to contact my councilman. So...for those of you who would like
to pick
your mail up AT YOUR CONVENIENCE and for those of you who would like
to see
a post office opened up further down, PLEASE CONTACT YOUR
COUNCILMAN.

The number for the parish council is 278-4228; or if it's more
convenient,
you can e-mail your request to:

lduplessis at sbpg.net and in the subject line put your councilman's
name. I
would suggest that you give your name, contact number and address.
That's
what I gave when I called and left my complaint.

It was explained to me that the post office owns the site in
Chalmette as
well as Arabi. However, the other postal locations were leased. I
feel
that since they were leased prior to Katrina, it shouldn't be all
that
difficult to renew the lease for the Meraux or Violet location, make
repairs
and begin serving those areas at one of these sites. A more secure
location
is vital as we will still have limited access to boxes if just the
Violet/Meraux/St. Bernard trailers are moved closer to these
sections of the
parish.

PLEASE CONTACT YOUR COUNCILMAN REGARDING YOUR DESIRE TO HAVE BETTER
POSTAL
SERVICE!

Janet
