St. Bernard Parish residents with Hurricane Katrina-damaged photos can
attend a program Sunday in Chalmette during which technicians will begin the
restoration process.

Representatives of Operation Photo Rescue, which has already been to the
Mississippi Gulf Coast and to Jefferson Parish, will be at 2010 W.
Beauregard St. from 2 to 5:30 p.m. to gather storm-damaged pictures from the
public for free restoration, a St. Bernard Parish government news release
said.

The organization makes digital copies of damaged originals, which are then
restored by about 900 volunteer members of a network that now spans 25
countries, said Dave Ellis, a photo editor with a newspaper in
Fredericksburg, Va., who helped start the group.

Once completed, the restoration is printed and sent back to the image owner.
The service is provided free.

As many as five photos will be accepted from each individual or family. The
most salvageable images from each individual or family will be copied for
restoration, the news release said.
