Discussion in Chalmette Wednesday to focus on historic homes

Some St. Bernard Parish residents with homes in the Old Arabi Historic area,
the Friscoville Historic area, as well as homes on the National Register of
Historic Places, may be eligible for grant money to repair them, said a
state official who will discuss the program in Chalmette at 6 p.m. Wednesday
in the Parish Council office behind the government complex.

Applications for grants must be submitted by Dec. 15. An owner of a historic
Louisiana property may be eligible for recovery grants ranging from $5,000
to $45,000, according to a St. Bernard Parish news release.

Dabne Whitemore, program director for the Historical Building Recovery Grant
program that falls under the state office of Culture, Recreation and
Tourism, will discuss the program in Chalmette. She said she will give a
presentation and answer questions about the program.

Whitemore also said about $10 million statewide is available for recovery
grants through congressional appropriation
