The ExxonMobil Foundation has announced a $1 million donation to the St.
Bernard Parish public school system for the creation of a new math and
science program.

The announcement came during a news conference today at Andrew Jackson
Elementary School in Chalmette.

The school district was hit hard by Hurricane Katrina.

The grant will be used to cover materials, training and new programs, such
as "Reasoning Mind,'' a computer-assisted math program tailored to
individual students.

The donation announced Friday is a component of the $10 million pledge the
ExxonMobil Foundation made earlier this year to enhance public education
recovery efforts in the metropolitan area, the company said in a news
release.
