[StBernard] slabs

Deborah and All,

The Army Corps reps are concerned about the rebar in the slabs for mostly
safety purposes in the placement of the parts of the slabs as armoring
material. Removing the rebar will likely result in pieces that may not be
the right size for armoring material. The protruding pieces of metal can be
cut off after placement. The question under review is the cost factor- how
much will it cost to remove slabs, haul to a storage facility, place at a
given levee site verses barging rock material in and placing it at the
designated site.

Keep in mind that FEMA has now approved the hauling of concrete if it is at
the curb so if a person has the slab broken up and moved to the curb the
hauling and disposal cost can be saved.

There is precedent for the slab removal being a reimbursable expense, but it
has to be requested in the right manner at the right time to the right
people- indications are that we are getting close.

Good luck and God Bless,
Craig
