Dear friends,

Thank you for your support!

Earlier this week, I emailed you to let you know that I have decided to run
for Governor this year. I truly have appreciated the thousands of emails,
letters, and phone calls that I have gotten since then from people across
the state offering their support.

There were quite a few stories about our announcement, but I wanted to share
one with you. Click the link below to read the Monroe News Star story:

Preventing a waste of taxpayer dollars

This week the House of Representatives passed important legislation that
revises the Congressional pension system to ensure that former members of
Congress that are convicted of certain felony offenses will not be eligible
to receive their benefits.

Elected officials who have betrayed their constituents and misused their
positions should not receive taxpayer funded pension benefits. I was a vocal
advocate for revising the pension system so that taxpayers will no longer
have to fund retirement benefits for former members convicted of these
crimes. I was glad that my colleagues agreed with me that we needed to
correct this oversight that should never have happened. No member of
Congress is above the law and felons should not be rewarded with a pension
at the expense of taxpayers.

Protecting student pages

In addition, I recently joined my colleagues in voting to strengthen the
oversight of the House Page Program.

As the father of three young children, I was horrified last year when it
came to light that that a Member of Congress had acted inappropriately with
the students working in the House of Representatives. My reaction was that
of a father, not a Republican or Democrat; anyone who attempts to victimize
our children, regardless of party position or affiliation, should face
serious consequences. Parents trust that when they send their children to
Washington, D.C. to participate in the Page Program that their children will
be safe and protected.

There can be no place in the halls of Congress for actions that violate our
children and disgrace our nation, and I am pleased that we have added
increased protections for the pages working in Congress.

What a year for Saints fans!

This was an amazing year for the Saints, who went to the NFC Championship
game for the first-time ever. What really impressed me was the team working
together, with no one looking for the spotlight or blaming others when a
play did not go exactly as planned. These efforts show what we can do when
we all work together as a team. I applaud the players and coaches for their
efforts.

My wife and I have been fans for years, but it was even more fun to watch
our children get into the spirit of football season. They had a great time
popping popcorn, putting on their Saints outfits, and cheering for the team.
I know that my three kids are excited to see the Saints win it all next
season!

I hope you have a wonderful week and please feel free to contact my office
if we can be of any assistance to you.

Sincerely,
Bobby
