Adviser: State Sen. Boasso sure to run for governor

State Sen. Walter Boasso is 99 percent sure he is running for governor, his
campaign adviser said Friday.

Boasso, R-Arabi, is finalizing his campaign team, Kim Manning said.

He will release a timeline for the race Monday, Manning said.

Boasso was unavailable for comment because of a family illness, Manning
said.

He is a self-made businessman who entered politics in 2003 when he was
elected to the Legislature.

He has become prominent for handling high-profile issues such as pension and
levee-board reform.

The election to pick a governor is Oct. 20.

Gov. Kathleen Blanco, a Democrat, is seeking re-election. U.S. Rep. Bobby
Jindal, R-Kenner, and Democratic Public Service Commissioner Foster Campbell
plan to challenge her.
