PUBLIC HEARINGS on the DRAFT MASTER PLAN:
"INTEGRATED ECOSYSTEM RESTORATION AND HURRICANE PROTECTION:
LOUISIANA'S COMPREHENSIVE MASTER PLAN FOR A SUSTAINABLE COAST"

The Louisiana Speaks Regional Vision is being created in close collaboration
with Louisiana's Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority (CPRA).
Louisiana Speaks is working with CPRA to develop community growth strategies
and other "non-structural" means that support CPRA's work on coastal
restoration and levee planning.

In December 2005, the Louisiana State legislature established the CPRA as
the single state entity with the authority to focus development and
implementation efforts for comprehensive coastal protection. Utilizing input
from a wide variety of stakeholders over the past year, the Coastal
Protection and Restoration Authority developed a comprehensive master plan
for sustainable coastal protection integrating the two goals of hurricane
protection and coastal restoration. A preliminary draft of the master plan
was released in November 2006 for public comment. After reviewing these
comments, the draft of the master plan was published and is now available
from louisianacoastalplanning.org <http://louisianacoastalplanning.org> .
Public hearings to discuss the draft plan, as well as the Louisiana Coastal
Impact Assistance Program Draft Plan and the FY 2008 Annual Plan: Ecosystem
Restoration and Hurricane Protection in Coastal Louisiana are scheduled for
Houma, Lake Charles and New Orleans the last week of February and a public
meeting in Abbeville is scheduled for March 1st. Copies of the DRAFT
Comprehensive Coastal Master Plan for Louisiana will be available for review
at Parish libraries in addition to the Coastal Protection and Restoration
Authority--Integrated Planning Team website, louisianacoastalplanning.org
<http://louisianacoastalplanning.org> . Copies of the Coastal Impact
Assistance Program Draft Plan are available from:
