A blood drive will be held Thursday in Chalmette to benefit a 5-month-old
girl and a 20-year-old man.

The Blood Center's Bloodmobile will be in The Home Depot parking lot on West
Judge Perez Drive from 2 to 7 p.m.

Sydney Landry, the daughter of Kelly and Paul Landry, former St. Bernard
Parish residents now living in Thibodaux, is scheduled to have open heart
surgery April 4 to correct a cardiac defect known as atrioventricular canal.

Gino Catalanotto Jr. of Chalmette was hurt in a 40-foot fall Feb. 26 while
at work. The fall resulted in brain damage and several broken bones. He has
already undergone five surgeries and at least 10 blood transfusions.

Prospective donors must be 17 or older and weigh at least 110 pounds. They
must be in good health, and are given a mini-physical and health screening
before they can give blood. There is no maximum age to donate blood, and
chronic conditions, such as diabetes or high blood pressure, do not
disqualify a donor.

Donors should eat something and drink plenty of fluids before giving blood.
They also must bring a picture ID with them.

For information, call the Blood Center at 1 (800) 86-BLOOD
