Republican state Sen. Walter Boasso, who is also running for governor,
acknowledged Wednesday that he is being approached about switching parties.

"He said his parents were Democrats."

*****So was mine, but as we ALL know, the Democratic Party of 50 years ago
is NOT one and the same that existed by my ancestors. And, if history is
correct by me, Abraham Lincoln was a Republican whose issues at that time
would be considered liberal by today's standards.

"I'm meeting with anybody who's interested in good government. I don't think
there's a Republican way to govern or a Democratic way to govern," Boasso
said."

**You wanna bet? It's like day and night. There's a mandate by the people
who puts someone into office (at least that's what the democrats are saying
about the New Congress of 2007) to end the Iraq War. Why isn't there a
similar mandate by someone who places a republican or democrat into office?
If more people vote for a democratic candidate, isn't that a mandate by
those who voted for a demo or vice versa? So, if I'm a conservative and vote
for a liberal, I expect that political philosophy to prevail while he/she's
in office. That's what a platform is all about and what convinces us to
trust that candidate or expect that winning candidate to follow that
campaign promise that captured the voter's attention and confidence.

What kind of nonsense is this discussion? In the past, even elected
officials have switched parties (ex. A U.S. senator changes from democratic
party to the republican party or Sen. Libermann changing his political
affiliation to Independent from Democratic.

What could happen is that Mr. Boasso may be looking to get the democratic
vote (and that's fine), but many in the conservative party might believe
their true choice would be to vote Republican after the changeover.
(Although candidate Raymond Brown believes he'll win with delusions of
grandeur -- and the black vote). Boasso may do quite well in the democratic
field, but can only enhance votes toward the Republican party by those who
feel "I wanted to vote for Walter, but now that he's Democratic/Independent,
I'll stay with the bandwagon and vote my conscience and Mr. Jindal!"
<smile>.

But, we'll see.
