Corps fo hold MRGO meeting in Chalmette Saturday

The Corps of Engineers will discuss the Mississippi River Gulf Outlet during
a presentation in Chalmette Saturday.

The public is encouraged to attend. 

The presentation begins at 10:30 a.m. at the Nunez Community College
auditorium, 3710 Paris Road. A question and answer session will follow. 

Doors will open at 9 a.m. for an "open house poster session,'' the corps
says. 

During the meeting, the corps will discuss its reports on de-authorizing the
channel. 

Congress authorized construction of the MRGO in 1956 as a quicker route
between the Gulf of Mexico and the Port of New Orleans. Congress has now
directed the corps to develop a comprehensive plan to de-authorize
deep-draft shipping on the MRGO from the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf
Intracoastal Waterway.
