Legislators approve LSU-VA hospital business plan


BATON ROUGE - Governor Kathleen Babineaux Blanco issued the following statement after members of the Joint Legislative Committee on the Budget (JLCB) voted to approve the business plan for a new university teaching and research hospital in New Orleans. The Legislature previously approved the use of $300 million in CDBG funds to secure the land and design the hospital contingent upon legislative approval of the hospital business plan.

Statement from Governor Kathleen Babineaux Blanco

"I am pleased the JLCB took action today to move this project forward for the people in the New Orleans region. The full Legislature must now approve the plan and I urge them to do so swiftly. We must not hesitate to take advantage of this unique opportunity to partner with the Veteran's Administration for this new self-supporting teaching and research hospital. This effort is a vital to our redesigned health care environment."
