Governor Blanco reminds Delegation of $4.6 billion in state funds used for hurricane recovery as potential Road Home shortfall is addressed
As she works with Louisiana's Congressional Delegation to address the potential Road Home funding shortfall in Congress, Governor Kathleen Babineaux Blanco today shared specific details of the state's contributions to meet its own challenges in the wake of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. In a letter sent today, the Governor reminded Members that Louisiana provided an unprecedented $4.6 billion in state money for recovery items since the storms and called on the Delegation, other Members of Congress and additional federal partners to adequately address the Road Home and other ongoing recovery needs.

US Senate passes WRDA Bill; Statement by Governor Kathleen Babineaux Blanco
BATON ROUGE - Governor Kathleen Babineaux Blanco issued the following statement today after the United States Senate passed the Water Resource Development Act of 2007 (WRDA) by a vote of 91-4. Last month, the House of Representatives passed another version of the WRDA Bill, and a conference committee will meet to reconcile differences in the two bills.

The momentum continues for Governor Kathleen Babineaux Blanco's ambitious economic development agenda as Southern Business & Development (SB&D) magazine ranks Louisiana high in seven of ten key categories that often predict growth. For the second consecutive year, the publication recognizes Gov. Blanco as a trailblazer for making economic development a priority of her administration.

The Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs (LDVA) is the newest cabinet level agency within the Executive Department. In 2003 I was honored to be selected by Governor Kathleen Babineaux Blanco as its first secretary. Today, LDVA is an agency of 700 employees around the state serving the needs of Louisiana's veterans. Our mission is to, "assist Louisiana's veterans and their dependents in receiving all federal and state benefits, and deliver quality services at our war veterans homes and state cemeteries." This is accomplished through our 52 parish veterans services offices supporting all of the state s 64 parishes. This past year, over 30,000 claims were processed for Louisiana veterans and over $693 million in compensation payments were received.

In accordance with our Strategic Plan, OYD engaged youth, staff, stakeholders, and national leaders to develop a Service Coordination Model that transforms the juvenile probation and parole system. The Model was released last year and OYD has been working hard to complete the curriculum that will be piloted in the New Orleans, Thibodaux, Monroe and Tallulah areas. The rollout calls for full statewide implementation by the end of the year.
