BLANCO TRACK: Session Update for Tuesday, May 29, 2007;Today's progress on Governor Blanco's agenda to Strengthen Louisiana's Future

BATON ROUGE - The following bills in Governor Kathleen Babineaux Blanco's legislative package advanced in the legislature today:

House Bill 719-Child Tax Credit

* Sponsored by Representative Yvonne Dorsey.
* This bill provides a state child tax credit that is 10 percent of the federal child tax credit.
* Approved by the House Ways & Means Committee, and heads next to the full House of Representatives for further consideration.

Senate Bill 361 (formerly Senate Bill 189) -School Readiness Tax Credit

* Sponsored by Senator Ann Duplessis.
* Creates School Readiness Tax Credits to serve as an incentive for increasing the number of quality child care centers serving our infants and children. The credits benefit providers, parents, child care professionals and companies that provide child care for their employees.
* Approved by the Senate, heads next to the House of Representatives for committee referral.

House Bill 374- Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday

* Sponsored by Representative Taylor Townsend.
* This bill provides for a one week sales tax holiday in August for back to school purchases. This credit gives relief to parents as they provide their children with tools for success in the classroom.
* Approved by the House Ways & Means Committee, and heads next to the full House of Representatives for further consideration.

House Bill 357-Business Utilities Sales Tax Reduction

* Sponsored by Representative Taylor Townsend.
* This bill provides a three-fourths of one cent sales tax exemption for business utilities, including propane.
* Approved by the House Ways & Means Committee, and heads next to the full House of Representatives for further consideration.

House Bill 2 - Capital Outlay Budget

* Sponsored by Representative Taylor Townsend.
* Provides for the construction and repair of state and local facilities.
* Approved by the House Appropriations Committee, and heads next to the full House of Representatives for further consideration.
