St. Bernard parish murder suspect, William J. Crawford, Jr., 29.A fugitive
from St. Bernard Parish wanted for murder was arrested in Slidell on Sunday
afternoon, after Slidell police followed up on a New Orleans Crime Stoppers
tip that led to William J. Crawford, Jr., 29 -- wanted for the alleged
stabbing death of Frederick Luwisch VI on June 15, 2007. When Slidell police
first confronted a severely shaking Crawford, he allegedly gave them a false
name, then later correctly identified himself, a Slidell police department
spokesman said.

According to a Slidell police spokesman, Crawford told officers he had been
homeless since the June 15th incident although he had lived in the Riviera
Drive area prior to Hurricane Katrina. It was unclear why Crawford was at
the Riviera Drive address. After officers ran Crawfords' name and birthdate
through the National Crime Information Center, he was confirmed as the
suspect in the Luwisch murder, earlier this summer. Crawford now awaits
extradition to St. Bernard Parish.

In addition to his booking as a fugitive from St. Bernard Parish, Crawford
was also booked on an outstanding attachment for failure to appear in
Slidell City Court with regard to June 23, 2003 traffic violations.
