Alliance for Good Government lauds lawmakers
Civic leaders also honored at banquet Sunday, September 09, 2007From staff

The Alliance for Good Government honored lawmakers on the local, state and
national levels Friday evening at its annual Legislator of the Year awards
banquet at the Hilton New Orleans Riverside Hotel.

Legislators honored were U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-La.; state Rep. Austin
Badon Jr., D-New Orleans; the St. Bernard Parish Council; and state Rep.
"Tim" Burns, R-Mandeville.

The nonpartisan organization, celebrating its 40th anniversary, recognized
its "founding fathers" as well as those who have worked to make a difference
in local communities.


Civic Awards were presented to deceased Slidell City Councilwoman Pearl
Williams from St. Tammany Parish, Silence Is Violence co-founder Baty Landis
from Orleans Parish, civic leader Patricia Hennessey from Jefferson Parish
and Pete Savoie, a community leader from St. Bernard Parish.

Peter Scharf, a criminologist from New Orleans currently teaching at Texas
State University, was the guest speaker. WWL-TV news anchor Eric Paulsen was
the master of ceremonies.

The executive members of the alliance's chapters in Orleans, Jefferson, St.
Bernard and St. Tammany parishes select the Legislator of the Year award
recipients.
