St. Bernard Parish Council Clerk Polly Boudreaux has submitted her
resignation, saying a post-Hurricane Katrina increase in her workload leaves
too little time to spend with her family.

"As a single mother I can no longer allow the demands of this important job
to overshadow the demands of my two young children," said Boudreaux, who has
a daughter, 13, and a son, 10.

Boudreaux submitted a letter of resignation to the Parish Council on
Tuesday. Her last day will be Oct. 5.

Boudreaux, 46, said she has accepted a teaching job with the St. Bernard
Parish public school system, where she worked for 20 years before being
appointed council clerk in 2004.

"I'm saddened that she's leaving, but I fully understand," Councilman Mark
Madary said. "I've watched her carry a heavy load rebuilding her home after
Katrina while working full time and taking care of her children."

Boudreaux's secretary, Lenor Duplessis, has been named interim clerk until
the council hires a permanent replacement.

The clerk is responsible for sending out meeting notices, keeping the
council minutes, preparing agendas, researching laws and drafting ordinances
and resolutions.
