Assistant/Associate/Extension Agent (Housing)

WORK LOCATION: Metairie, Louisiana, Metropolitan New Orleans area. The
Metropolitan New Orleans area consists of the City of New Orleans and
surrounding parishes. The area of emphasis is the parishes devastated by
Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. The population of the area is over 800,000
residents in the parishes of Jefferson, Orleans, Plaquemines St. Bernard and
St. Tammany. Tourism, consumer and commercial horticulture, oil, fishing,
and shipping are the major areas of economic development.


POSITION DESCRIPTION: This individual will develop and conduct sustainable
housing educational outreach programming for consumers, housing producers
and community organizations, with special emphasis on post-storm rebuilding
and restoration for the Greater New Orleans area. Serve on LaHouse Resource
Center faculty core team and extend its programs to area residents,
industry, public officials and organizations. Network and collaborate with
local rebuilding and recovery coalitions and organizations in the Greater
New Orleans area. Provide technical assistance to local educational housing
demonstration projects. Keep abreast of local rebuilding issues, needs and
suitable building practices and technologies. Seek external support for
these programs. Assist in housing program evaluations. Inform local
officials of relevant research and housing trends.


QUALIFICATIONS: A degree and expertise in residential building science or
construction required; Masters' degree preferred. Persons with only an
undergraduate degree must have a minimum of 2.5 overall grade point average
based on a 4-point grading system. If the applicant has pursued any graduate
courses, the grade point average of all graduate work must be at least 3.0
on a 4.0 system. The applicant must demonstrate effective oral and written
communication skills. A candidate with less than a 2.5 GPA may be considered
if the candidate has 10 or more years of related professional level
experience and the candidate agrees to complete a minimum of 15 hour of
related college graduate level coursework before the end of three years of
employment. Ability to work with and through others is essential as is the
ability to function with minimum supervision.


SALARY AND BENEFITS: Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and
experience. The LSU AgCenter has an attractive benefits package with a wide

category, percent effort and length of employment.


CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: A personal automobile and appropriate insurance
coverage is required (travel allowance provided). Satisfactory completion of
two specific graduate level extension courses is generally required in the
first two years of employment. Additionally a faculty member must complete a
minimum of 15 hours of related graduate level coursework in order to be
promoted to associate agent and such promotion must occur in the first seven
years of employment.
