Boasso, St. Bernard Sheriff Not Big On Bobby's Old Ad
Sheldon Fox,

October 6, 2007

In a recently airing television campaign ad, St. Bernard Sheriff Jack
Stephens, praises Congressman Bobby Jindal for helping bail out
storm-stricken St. Bernard Parish after Katrina.

In the ad, an appreciative Stephens talked of the gubernatorial candidate
swooping down in his helicopter and immediately making moves to get the
parish water, trailers and other disaster-related assistance. The ad closes
with a Bobby Jindal for governor tag.

But the ad is old, initially shot and aired last year back when Jindal
campaigned to get re-elected as congressman.

Jindal's gubernatorial opponent, State Sen. Walter Boasso, today wanted to
make sure the ad gets properly dated, and he sat with Sheriff Stephens at
the parish substation as the two addressed the media.

Stephens said he wanted to make sure viewers didn't think the commercial was
a Jindal endorsement. He called his comments in the ad an offering of thanks
for help during Katrina, but he also said Boasso's post-storm work helped
his parish as well. He refused to endorse either candidate.

Stephens also said he asked Jindal to pull the ad because it may be
misconstrued.

Jindal's office told ABC26 News the ad will stop airing by midweek.

Boasso said bringing the old ad back is an example of Jindal doing what ever
he can to become governor.
