Kenny: I make reference to your response dated 9/14/07 concerning
properties that were, as of this date, not gutted. In particular, 3504
Charles Drive (behind the St. Mark Church "playground") has not been gutted,
has a yellow demo sticker that was issued 6/6/07, and has work order # 06689
marked on it.
I don't know exactly where your district ends, so I will again question the
demolition of the trailer park located between Splash Car Wash and Springer
Furniture. From Judge Perez Drive you can easily see the trailers, and the
demo sticker on the first one. I drove completely around the circle and
found that none of the trailers had been gutted, there are still two boats
and a boat trailer remaining, and the grass is growing high enough where it
is beginning to "hide" the road. This should be an easy demolition since it
is all contained in one area, and if viewed from Judge Perez Drive, would
make the entire three block area look 1000 times better. If the trailer
park is privately owned, it might be an opportunity to be redeveloped, or
have the area reclassified as commercial or residential use. Anything would
be better than what is is today.
As I have stated in the past, for people passing through the parish on
either St. Bernard Highway or Judge Perez, form their impression of our
progress, or lack there-of. For that reason I would like to mention a few
more properties that, if outside of your district, should be referred to the
proper individual to take action. Those with demo stickers, awaiting
action include: Jay's Screens (782 Judge Perez); Chalmette Seafood (705
Judge Perez); The old Chalmette post office/Randazo building at 301 Judge
Perez (work order #5440), and the former Southern Savings Building adjacent
Home Dept (work order 06583). I believe this was a law office for either
Mr. Mumphrey or Mr. Tonry.
Please understand that I am assuming that the appropriate corrective actions
have not been taken by the owners, and that the demo stickers are valid. If
not, they should be removed from the demo list and the stickers removed.
If not, these buildings should be demolished as soon as possible to improve
the appearance along Judge Perez Drive.
Kenny, you also mentioned visiting your web-site or attending one of your
meetings. Could you please provide me with the email address and date and
time of your meetings? I am very concerned that many of these projects are
now moving at a snails pace, and I will be more than happy to assist.
John Richardson
