Governor Blanco responds to Jordan's request for state funding

BATON ROUGE - Governor Kathleen Babineaux Blanco issued the following statement responding to New Orleans District Attorney Eddie Jordan's letter seeking state funding of a $3.7 million judgment:

"This matter arises from the action of the district attorney's office; therefore the solution should also come from that office. The District Attorney must take the lead on this issue and work with the city to design a work plan for payment of this judgment, as state law dictates the DA's office is a local funding responsibility. Only after such an outline is formed should the office approach the state. If the state does assist with payment, that would be a decision made during the next legislative session."
