LRA Board Member Chet Morrison Applauds Congress for Overriding President Bush's Veto of WRDA

BATON ROUGE, La. (November 8, 2007) - Louisiana Recovery Authority (LRA) Board Member Chet Morrison issued the following statement today in response to the United States Congress's vote to override President George W. Bush's veto of the Water Resources Development Act of 2007 (WRDA).

"This week, House and Senate stood together and acted in a bipartisan vote to override the President's veto of WDRA. The people of Louisiana thank each and every member of Congress that supported this critical piece of legislation, especially the members of our delegation that worked tirelessly to lead the fight. WRDA authorizes billions for projects to restore Louisiana's hurricane and flood protection infrastructure in the aftermath of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, and the 110th Congress will always be remembered for taking swift action today and delivering on their commitment to Louisiana and the Gulf Coast's recovery."

Hurricanes Katrina and Rita devastated South Louisiana, claiming 1,464 lives, destroying more than 200,000 homes and 18,000 businesses. The Louisiana Recovery Authority (LRA) is the planning and coordinating body that was created in the aftermath of these storms by Governor Kathleen Babineaux Blanco to lead one of the most extensive rebuilding efforts in the world. The LRA is a 33-member body which is coordinating across jurisdictions, supporting community recovery and resurgence, ensuring integrity and effectiveness, and planning for the recovery and rebuilding of Louisiana.
