LBTC MOBILE CLASSROOM TO COMES TO CHALMETTE
LSU to Provide Valuable Free Seminars for Small Businesses and
Entrepreneurs!!

Representatives from The Louisiana Business & Technology Center (LBTC), an
integral part of the E. J. Ourso College of Business at Louisiana State
University, and their partner organizations will be presenting seminars
focused on entrepreneurial training and small business development through
the LBTC's mobile business classroom, which began a 3-year tour of
Louisiana's rural parishes in February of 2006. The mobile classroom will be
in Chalmette, LA, Tuesday, February 19th and Wednesday, February 20th, it
will be located in the Gulf Coast Bank parking lot, 1801 East Judge Perez.
The initiative, dubbed "Driving Louisiana's Economy," is focused on spurring
economic development in Louisiana's rural parishes. The mobile classroom
will visit 37 rural parishes including the hurricane affected areas. The
mobile classroom features a plasma-screen monitor for video presentations,
seating for up to 30 people, exhibit and display space, self-contained
power, water, heating and cooling systems, and handicapped/wheelchair
access.
Free Seminars offered in Chalmette will include:
Tuesday, February 19th- "Starting and Financing Your Business," (9:00-11:00
A.M.) presented by M. Mohammed, Consultant, with the LSBDC Greater New
Orleans Region and a Retail Business owner for over ten years; "How to
Patent Your Product," (11:15 A.M.-12:15 P.M) presented by Alexis Carrasquel,
Patent & Trademark Librarian, with LSU Libraries; "Budgeting & Financial
Statements," (1:00-3:00 P.M.) presented by Richard Melancon, Consultant,
with the LSBDC Greater New Orleans Region and a CPA with experience as both
an accountant and management consultant; "Customer Service," (3:15-4:15
P.M.) presented by Allison Sheffield, Mobile Business Training Coordinator,
for the Louisiana Business & Technology Center; "Small Business Innovative
Research," (4:30-5:30 P.M.) presented by Victor Johnson, Manager, of the
Louisiana Technology Transfer Office. A special session for teens will be
held on "How to Interview for a Job," (5:45-7:00 P.M.) presented by Allison
Sheffield of the Louisiana Business and Technology Center.

Wednesday, February 20th - "Marketing 101," (9:00-11:00 A.M.) presented by
J. Keegan, Consultant, with the LSBDC Greater New Orleans Region with many
years of experience in management and management consulting; "Environmental
Compliance Consultation," (11:15 A.M.-12:15 P.M.) presented by Kurt
Wilson, Environmental Chemical Specialist, with the Department of
Environmental Quality; "Time, Life, Business- Managing it All,"
(1:30-2:45 P.M.) presented by Earnest J. Reilly, Founder and Director, of
T.E.E.M.; "Applying for a Business Loan" (3:00-3:30 P.M.) presented by Sean
Warner, Commercial Lender & Branch Manager, and Chris Doize, Commercial Loan
Representative, both of Gulf Coast Bank & Trust Company; and "Benefits of
Chamber Membership," (3:30-5:00 P.M.) presented by Amy Ybarzabal, Director,
of the St. Bernard Chamber of Commerce.
"The mobile classroom comes at time when our state must re-build and revive
its businesses," said Charles D'Agostino, executive director of the LBTC. "I
am proud we are able to offer this resource to Louisiana businesses that
have felt the effects of hurricanes Katrina and Rita as well as our rural
parishes."
The LBTC is working with the Louisiana Small Business Development Center
Greater New Orleans Region, Gulf Coast Bank & Trust Company, St. Bernard
Chamber of Commerce, Exxon Mobil, and Nunez Community College.
A United States Department of Agriculture Rural Business Enterprise grant
supports the mobile classroom. LSU business alumnus John Barnidge, who
serves as interim president and CEO of Healthtronics, was instrumental in
the donation and retrofitting of the trailer to the E. J. Ourso College for
use as a mobile business classroom. Other partners in the project include
the United States Department of Agriculture Rural Development- Rural
Business Enterprise Grant Program, the Louisiana Municipal Association, the
LSU Ag Center, Capital One, Louisiana Public Facilities Authority, Louisiana
Economic Development, and the Louisiana Small Business Development Center.
All mobile classroom seminars are free. Registration is encouraged. To
