Submit Names, Corrections For St. Bernard Memorial

POSTED: 5:03 pm CST March 3, 2008

NEW ORLEANS -- The St. Bernard Parish Government is trying to correct errors
on the Hurricane Katrina Memorial at Shell Beach erected on the first
anniversary of the storm that took the lives of about 150 St. Bernard
residents.

The parish will include any persons who lived in St. Bernard Parish at the
time of Katrina and who died as a result of the storm.

Since the monument was erected, Coroner Bryan Bertucci said he has been
collecting information about inaccuracies on the monument.

Anyone who believes they know a St. Bernard resident who died because of
Katrina and wants to add the victim's name to the monument must provide
proof of death, such as a death certificate, and the circumstances of that
person's death.

Anyone who wants to report that a name on the monument or on Bertucci's list
is misspelled should report the correct spelling and leave a contact number.

Anyone who thinks any name on the monument or on Bertucci's list should be
removed should give the name and contact information.

All of the information can be sent to Karen Turni Bazile, Executive
Assistant to the Parish President, by fax at 504-278-4330, by email to
kbazile at sbpg.net or mailed to her at the government complex at 8201 W. Judge
Perez Drive, Chalmette, LA 70043.

A copy of the death certificate and contact information also can be dropped
off at the Office of the President on the second floor of the parish
government building.
